I’ve been tracking my sleep with an UP by Jawbone for the past several weeks now, and I’ve noticed a few trends…
I typically get between 7.5 and 8.5 hours of sleep, my sound sleep vs. light sleep is usually 4.5 vs 3.5, and I’m still waking up tired.
So, I want to do an experiment. I want to try and improve the quality of my sleep to see if it helps with my energy levels throughout the day.
Of course, there are more variables to consider when it comes to pinpointing where the lack of energy is coming from. But I think for now, sleep is a good place to start.
I’ve read that having a nighttime routine to unwind before bed is a great way to help improve the quality of your sleep. So I’m going to implement a nightly routine that doesn’t involve the use of electronic devices over the course of the next week. The internet recommends 30 minutes of unwind time before bed.
Here’s what my routine will consist of:
- Washing my face
- Brushing my teeth
- Studying for my yoga teacher certification
- And meditating
I feel like the meditation factor is important. For me anyway. Supposedly, meditation in and of itself is a great way to help improve the quality of your sleep. So I’m including it in my nighttime routine.
Each day, I will take intricate notes as a means of trying to understand how incorporating a nighttime routine is affecting my mood, energy levels, and mental abilities. I will also take into account and record other variables that could be affecting me, such as exercise, diet, daily experiences, menstual cycle, etc.
Last night was my first night of implementation, and I will continue with this routine over the next week, and report back with my findings.
Feeling good is really important to living well, so I’m excited to see how improving the quality of my sleep can potentially help improve my overall wellbeing.
Wish me luck!
